Moment-ing (shut-up, it could be a thing.)

(Please do not be confused, this is about no one and no thing in particular. It doesn't have to be, it certainly doesn't need to be. This, along with all of my other ramblings are, in all honesty, a mayhem/collection of random thoughts from various times/phases in my all too tangled life. Let's not catch feelings here people or assume I'm in too deep.)

Drown yourself in the sweet bliss of a perfectly untouchable moment. It is in these moments you'll find what you had no idea you were looking for. Flashes burning brightly singeing each vein in your body one by one until all you feel is the afterglow of an electrically charged rush feeding in and out of your heart. If you can, do try to find the core of this moment, hold on to it and put it in your pocket for the days when it's no where to be found. A kiss maybe, a sweet laugh from your child, the sun beating down on your face, a smile from someone holding the door for you, a rush of wind moving you across a path.

Making this a practice can eventually keep us moving through the treacherous decathlon of life like a Joan of Arc wielding her sword at every fly-by swing. It can also hopefully serve to help us to be in the moment. This phrase is overused at best and can sound like some ill-written chapter in a NYT bestseller self help book pushed by the likes of Dr. Oz or Phil, or both. But if we grudgingly flit through life like robots on autopilot aren't we missing the whole point. We're trained, even encouraged, to focus on things we need to change or improve or overcome instead of just taking a step back and letting the whirlwind pass us by as we sit and revel in the glimmer of what is right now, today, this very second. Maybe if we did this "moment-ing" more, we may discover we can be recharged or self-invigorated to push forward with a bit more energy or hope. That cannot be bad no matter how you slice it.

It's a conscious effort that is without doubt exceedingly difficult to achieve once, much less create into a habit but it should be, no, it must be a priority. Protein shakes, healthy living, meditation, anti-anxiety meds, and a healthy IRA, etc. are not the only things that will keep us breathing til old age. We can't just be a perfectly coiffed and maintained vessel with a soul tarnished by pain and ravaged by sadness faking it til we make it. It's in this practice we can find a home that our house could never furnish. We can discover things we never thought we needed but will come to rely on. It can even be the desperately needed punchline in the middle of a tragedy. It can serve as a collection of carefully wrapped chocolates waiting to be opened one by one when life is screaming at you to skip the sugar.

Picture the incessant chaos of bumble bees buzzing around in a disorganized maddening tornado. Then, without hesitation, it rests on its flower of choice and sits quietly devouring nature of its sweet nectar. Moments later it's flying around yet again in its disarray in search of its next resting point, momentarily satiated yet eager to meet its next flower. We can be the same, taking small peaceful moments of each hectic day just to soak it all in, the beautiful moments, our own nectar and then take that breath of life to push us forward through the remainder of our steps.

I want to run

Maybe I should change my name and run...so I don't have to hold on. A great line from an even better song. Sums me up in a few words. I...
